How Cohere retires models
Cohere notifies impacted customers by email and in its documentation, along with blog posts, and lists every deprecation on its deprecations page, newest first. A legacy model no longer receives updates and may be deprecated later.
A deprecated model is closed to new customers but stays available to existing users until it is retired. An existing user is anyone who used the model or endpoint within 90 days of the deprecation announcement, and Cohere says a shutdown date is assigned at that time. Once a model is shut down, requests to it fail, so Cohere asks you to move all usage to a replacement before that day and to test the new model well ahead of it.
No Cohere model has a shutdown day ahead in Okapi's records.
Policy read on Cohere's pages on November 5, 2026. Okapi last checked Cohere's model pages on November 6, 2026.
